OUR MISSION AT THE YONKERS PADDLING & ROWING CLUB (YPRC) HUDSON RIVER RIDERS PROGRAM IS TO PROVIDE ACCESS TO THE HUDSON RIVER AND DEVELOP THE NEXT GENERATION OF ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDS.

Meet the HRR Leaders!

  • Director, Chev Dixon

I grew up in Jamaica until I was thirteen then moved to Yonkers, NY.

One fun fact is that I’ve broken my right arm and right leg climbing trees and playing soccer. I love the water because it keeps me calm and helps me create a clear life direction.

You can find me on the Hudson River in Yonkers, somewhere in the wilderness or on IG @negus_chev

  • Manager, Alex Morales

My name is Alex Morales and I am 20 years old. I grew up in Yonkers, NY.

One fun fact is that I have two emotional support pet chickens. What I love about the water is that it is unpredictable, it can be calm one day and the next day it is waves.

You can find me across the river camping in my drift wood made bungalow cooking traditional Honduran food or on IG @hungry_honduran

Our History

The Hudson River Riders program was founded by Gerry Blackstone in 2003 at the Clearwater festival to introduce new people to the sport of kayaking. In 2006, Gerry requested that Yonkers Paddling & Rowing Club (YPRC) support his visions, suggesting that they provide Hudson River access to the public and kayaks for the local youths to cross the river and enjoy Alpine State Park. That year, the City of Yonkers provided storage for YPRC to operate at JFK Marina. In 2016 Hudson River Rider adopted a new mission which is to create a classroom on the water for underprivileged youth to develop paddling skills & safety and become the next generation of environmental stewards. The program offers free kayaking & paddle boarding tours, kayak race training, and environmental awareness Wednesdays Thursdays and Fridays from June to September.

IMPACT:

Since its formation, the Hudson River Rider program has been a force in the Yonkers community providing access to the Hudson River, growing environmental awareness and developing American Canoe Association (ACA) Instructors. We have put approximately 10,000 people on the river through various programs. With the support of the people, we will continue making memories and impact the lives of the people
